Martial arts for Self Defense


Martial arts is without doubt one of the longest form of self defense techniques that ever existed since the beginning of human civilization. Each part of the region of the world have their own version of the martial arts. And if you observe the history of the world closely, Kung Fu, Chinese form of martial arts is perhaps one of the most well known and practiced type of self defense Arts from generation to generation.

And thanks to exposures made by martial arts artists turned movie stars like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee and a few other, Chinese martial arts, Kung fu, more specifically, has spread beyond its ethnic roots and wins the attention from all over the world. Most people, when asked what their idea of self defense is kung fu or karate-do. Let me spill the truth for you. What you learn in school will not be able to save your life, if you are involved in a situation in real life.

And to be honest, I began to have an interest in martial arts when I was exposed to Hong Kong dramas, so If you ask me, what I know about martial arts, I would say, I know them thru the TELEVISION and cinema. While it's fun to see how Jackie Chan makes his action complex in his movie, stunt attack just under half of what they know is already enough to save your life or do a counter in a real-life fight situation.

There are a lot of martial arts learning, and there is no right or wrong when it comes to which of them, that you decided to learn. There is actually a lot of martial arts guruer like to Bruce Lee, who learned so many types of martial arts and come out with their own styles. If you are familiar with using weaponries, you should at least Try kendo and fencing. And if you are like me, and interested to learn close combat skills, try the Korean martial arts, Taekwando or Japanese Judo.

But, always remember to use your martial arts skill for self defense purposes. It is always better to be ready to counter any hazards which might happen. Who knows you might be able to use your martial arts skill to save your life from a threatening situation with life. We must do whatever it takes to save us. Sometimes can even have a basic self defense skill save your life. Real-time control means even a split second difference a lot.
