Lahore, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani judge Friday ordered that an American arrested in shooting death of two Pakistanis, remain in custody for 14 days and also advised the Government it should clarify that the person has diplomatic immunity, as claimed, Washington.

The continued detention of a man, identified by the Pakistanis — Raymond Davis Allen, severely straining the relationship between the United States and Pakistan, whose Alliance is key to ending the war in Afghanistan.

United States says an American soldier, former United States Army special forces shot dead two Pakistanis in self-defense because they tried to rob him in the eastern city of Lahore. Washington insists that his detention is not lawful under international agreements covering diplomats because he was a member of the Embassy of United States.

United States have already begun to curb diplomatic contacts and threatened to withdraw aid to Pakistan if Davis does not release quickly, and on Friday to keep him in custody is unlikely to please many in Washington.

However, the judges agreement with the defense that Government should clarify whether Davis immune can give American officials some room to maneuver with colleagues from Pakistan.

Pakistani leaders are loathe to produce a backlash in the open is already rife with anti United States mood — for weeks, avoid doing a final statement of the legal status of Davis ', instead, to say the question is, the courts. The fact that the competing political parties control the Federal Government and the Government of the province of Punjab, where there will be any trial is even more difficult for Pakistani response.

Davis faces potential murder charges. It must be held in prison in the Kot Lakhpat, Lahore, Kot town where the filming took place on 27 January, said Abdus Samad, Director of public prosecutions, who told reporters after the session, which was closed to media.

For 25 Feb is Davis ' next court appearance. Samad said that judge Anik Anwar also decided to get the Government's response to the request of defence that a trial will take place from public opinion.

This is the kind of work Davis makes for United States is a serious problem, because this can affect the Pakistani opinions of his diplomatic immunity.

Officials of the United States that are not immediately reached for comment Friday, would only say that it was an employee of the American Embassy, which is considered part of the "administrative and technical staff." said that appointment gives him full immunity, United States.

There were also differences in Pakistan due to the fact that Davies was armed. Senior official of the United States told The Associated Press that Davis was authorized by the United States to bear arms, but that "grey zone" if Pakistani law allows him to do so.

Long before Davis appeared on the public consciousness, conspiracy theories about armed American mercenaries, roaming the country have been distributed among the population and the sections of the media here.

According to data from the Pentagon's 36-year-old Davis is a former Special Forces soldiers who left the army in August 2003 after 10 years of service. Virginia native, he served as infantry divisions before coming to the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In 1994, he was part of the United Nations peacekeeping forces in Macedonia. His entry includes several awards and medals, including for good behaviour.

Public records also show Davis runs, the company with his wife, registered in Las Vegas called Hyperion protective services, although it was not immediately clear whether the company has many contracts with the Government of the United States.

Embassy of the United States said that he has a diplomatic passport and visa is valid until June 2012. He also said in his recent statement that the United States had notified the Government of Pakistan Davis assignment over a year ago.

After the shootings in Lahore on January 27, Davis called for backup. American car, rushing to the stage hit the third of Pakistan, a bystander, who later died. United States has said anything about Americans participating in the third death, although Pakistani police said they want to examine them as well.
